Mission: Our Mission is to reduce the impact of climate change on human health by focusing on three core strategies:
Vision: We envision a climate resilient Idaho which enables equitable access to healthy environments for all current and future residents.
1) Drive innovation and sustainability in healthcare
1) Climate change is negatively impacting human health.
Deforestation, resource depletion, carbon emissions, and unsustainable agricultural practices all contribute to climate change while creating a less healthy world. Environmental instability leads to increases in water contamination, extreme heat, air pollution, and infectious and vector borne diseases. Reproducible experiments and expert analyses consistently link climate change to worsening respiratory and heart disease, pregnancy complications, renal and liver disease as well as worsening neurologic and psychologic disorders.
2) The healthcare industry is accelerating climate change.
The healthcare industry itself is responsible for around 8% of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions and a variety of other climate effects due to unsustainable practices, medical waste and pharmaceuticals. ICCH members are doing their part to improve sustainability in the US healthcare system by educating health professionals and increasing public awareness on the health impacts of climate change. 2) Expand knowledge of health impacts of a changing climate in a non-partisan manner
3) Advance climate resiliency through community action and advocacy
